If you built up your stockpile for the first of the (many, many) possible Brexit dates, you’ll have had it for almost a year at this point (if not a little longer). It would be a good idea to check the use-by/best-by dates on the items you have in stock, and replace them if necessary. (You may of course have eaten, drunk or used some of them during lockdown…)
Some of the items we found that had expired, or were close to expiry, included:
- Long-life milk: some of it is not as long-life as all that!
- Some tinned vegetables: while most of them tend to last for at least two years, some green/leafy vegetables don’t last quite as long (we found this particularly with tinned spinach)
- Dried pasta, although it can be used for a long time after its best-by date
At the time of writing (late September 2020) we are looking at more lockdown restrictions, so we may well see some more bulk-buying and availability issues with some items — hopefully not as severe as those during lockdown earlier on this year.
